Design
Dressed to impress, the Ford Escape has a classic design, modern features, and reasonable pricing (starting at $30,350). The 2026 Toyota RAV4 welcomes all-new bold styling but has a steeper starting price ($31,900). The RAV4 does not match the sporty and sophisticated presence of the ST-Line series for the Escape. These Ford Escape models amp up the style and sport a black mesh grille. RAV4 XSE models are the closest in comparison, but there's not an entire series.
Both SUVs offer a power liftgate. The RAV4 has a panoramic glass roof that tilts and slides. New Ford Escape SUVs have a panoramic Vista Roof® featuring a Power Shade that tilts and slides all the way back, so you get a daily dose of Vitamin D on the drive to York. The Ford Escape has instantly recognizable style with its available LED light bar, an aesthetically pleasing feature not seen on the RAV4.
Interior and Technology
The Escape and RAV4 are five-passenger SUVs. There's more interior space within the Ford Escape, which has five additional cubic feet of total passenger volume. The RAV4 has a total cargo capacity of 70.4 cubic feet, compared to the 65.4 cubic feet in the Escape, but Toyota's SUV lacks legroom. The Ford Escape offers an additional three inches of legroom in the back row and an extra inch of legroom in the front. The Ford Escape is also praised for its unique rotary gear shift dial, a minimalist shifter that leaves you more valuable center console space.
Toyota Audio Multimedia touchscreens in the RAV4 are between 10.5 and 12.9 inches. Neither screen is larger than the 13.2-inch center display in the Ford Escape, which counters the tech setup with SYNC® 4, Enhanced Voice Recognition, and Connected Navigation. The 2026 RAV4 unveils Toyota Safety Sense™ 4.0 and comes with a Blind Spot Monitor. The Escape mirrors the safety setup with BLIS® and Ford Co-Pilot360® technology as standard.
Fuel Economy and Performance
The 2026 Ford Escape offers four powertrains - double the choices of the RAV4, which only has hybrid and plug-in hybrid options. The Ford Escape offers a 1.5-liter EcoBoost® engine with 180 horsepower. A 2.0-liter EcoBoost® for the Ford Escape delivers 250 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of torque. These performance outputs surge past the Toyota RAV4, which generates 236 net combined horsepower. Both SUVs have identical towing capacities of 3,500 pounds.
The RAV4 earns 47 mpg, compared to the Escape with 42 mpg. RAV4 Plug-In Hybrid and Escape Plug-In Hybrid models are available. The Ford Escape was Earth's first hybrid SUV. A hybrid since 2005, the Ford Escape paved the way for future hybrids like the RAV4 to follow and carry on.
